I can think of no purchase where the individual is more at the mercy of the professional than in the selection of a hearing aid. Most of us have no idea what our hearing loss is, what can be achieved, or what is available. A dedicated and knowledgeable audiologist is necessary to select the make and model that best meets the need and provide continuing support.

I have worn hearing aids since 1991 and lived in California until 2005 when I retired to the Austin area.
I needed to find an Audiologist here, so began a search via the Internet, calling locally, and looking in the newspaper. After checking around, I ended up calling Dr. Margaret for an appointment. I immediately found her to be everything I was looking for. She is a Doctor of Audiology, and I find her very competent, and pleasant to deal with. She asks the right questions, in my view, to understand my hearing loss, and what I want a hearing aid to do.
I was particularly impressed with the fact that when I needed to upgrade my hearing aids to the newest technology, she didn't "sell" me new instruments, but showed me the wide range of aids she has available, and found the best match for my hearing loss. I was able to "demo" a number of choices, and decide on the right ones from own "in the ears" use.
